Message from the GALL President, Adam Weyer

Parents,

With Opening Day less than 2 weeks away, I wanted to touch base for a couple of reasons.

  1. Thank you for signing up to play with us this year. We have more kids playing this year than we have had in the previous 4-5 years and that is exciting for Greenwood.
  2. Our biggest improvement this year to our facility is the addition of the batting cage that is located behind the RF fence of Capsugel. This is due in large part to a grant that the Emerald City Rotary club secured and gifted to us for this project. We are still hoping that the cage will be completed and ready to use by Opening Day but the weather delayed much of the construction. When it is ready to use, we will have a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate. Many local businesses played a role in this facility improvement as well and they will be recognized at the appropriate time.
  3. Opening Day is scheduled for Saturday March 20th. We are planning an eventful day full of baseball, food provided by Sports Break, and our annual silent auction. Please make plans to come and spend some time with us that day. A schedule of events will be released shortly. Also, if you have items that you would like to donate to the silent auction, please get them to your team’s coach. If you have any questions about the silent auction, please reach out to Wendy Bruce. Her e-mail is [email protected].
  4. Picture Day is scheduled for Monday March 22nd. A schedule will be released by the end of the week.
  5. While COVID-19 is more under control this year, we still will be taking some safety precautions as it pertains to the season.
  • If your child is sick and/or has a fever or has been around someone with these symptoms, please keep them at home.
  • In coordination with the YMCA, the bathroom facilities will be sanitized multiple times throughout the course of the day.
  • In an effort to continue social distancing guidelines:
    • All bleachers for spectator seating will be unavailable. Please bring chairs with you to sit in for practices and games and be mindful of social distancing guidelines when you sit down.
  • Players and coaches will be instructed to utilize “air fives”, “glove fives”, and “air fist bumps” to minimize the amount of physical contact.
  • Players will be encouraged not to share equipment as it pertains to batting helmets and catcher’s gear.
  • Players and coaches will be instructed not to drink out of the same bottle or cooler. Each player is encouraged to bring their own drink to practice.

We are looking forward to an exciting and fun season of baseball. If you have any questions or concerns or would like more information on how to get involved, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via e-mail, [email protected].

Thank you.
